About
Dan Hurwitz is a disabled, Black, and Jewish writer, comedian, and occasional amateur cook. An east coast transplant (born and raised in New Haven, CT, before attending college in Boston) Dan moved to Seattle in 2007, and has lived in Beacon Hill since 2013.
Since starting comedy at The Comedy Nest open mic in 2017, Dan’s comedy has taken him to bars, back patios, and comedy clubs across the country (and once in Japan). He has performed at numerous comedy festivals, including the Burbank and Jersey City Comedy Festivals, where he was voted Best of Fest. He was a semifinalist in the nationwide Standup NBC comedy competition, and, despite a middling SAT score, he was named by The Stranger newspaper as one of the “Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy” in 2024. For the past 2 years, Dan has performed on and curated the comedy lineup for the Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival.
In 2018, Dan co-founded The Disabled List, an ever-growing collective of disabled performers from Seattle and beyond. The Disabled List has gone on to develop a loyal following, providing a space of community and laughter that centers the disabled community. The Disabled List produces an annual comedy festival every January that draws comedians and other performers from across the U.S. and Canada.
Dan is also the host of The Beacon Hill News, a hyperlocal news parody that appears periodically at the Clock-out Lounge in Beacon Hill.
