After serving a hitch in the US Navy as a junior officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy, Michael Spence drove public-transit busses in the Seattle area for 30 years. His poems have appeared in The Chariton Review, The Hopkins Review, The Hudson Review, The New Criterion, and The North American Review. New work is forthcoming in Measure, The Sewanee Review, Shenandoah, The Southern Review, and Tar River Poetry. Michael’s work was recently nominated for a Pushcart Prize and his fourth book, The Bus Driver’s Threnody, is forthcoming this fall from Truman State University Press.
